The Challenge

Bhutanese merchants who sell internationally — tour operators, handicraft exporters, food brands shipping abroad — need to accept payment cards issued in other countries. Bank of Bhutan's International Payment Gateway handles the acquiring side and settles the proceeds back into the merchant's BoB account, but bringing it onto a WordPress store meant the same wall as the domestic one: build a bespoke integration, get the card flow right, handle 3-D Secure, deal with currency, keep WooCommerce's order state in sync.

A drop-in plugin closes that gap. Install, configure, sell to customers anywhere in the world.

The Approach

Built as the cross-border counterpart to the RMA WooCommerce plugin, with shared architecture and a shared maintenance cadence. The plugin handles cross-border checkout end-to-end: card capture, the bank's authentication step, settlement back to the merchant's BoB account in BTN, and the refund path from the WooCommerce admin. Multi-currency display is supported so international customers see prices in a familiar currency at checkout.

Because it pairs with the RMA plugin, a single merchant can run both — domestic Nu. payments and international card payments — from the same WooCommerce admin, with one operational surface instead of two.

We maintain it continuously against WooCommerce releases, PHP upgrades, and changes to the BoB International Gateway API.

The Outcome

Shipped since 2018 and still shipping. Running in production at merchants who need to accept payment from overseas customers — Bio Bhutan, Taste of Bhutan, and others — typically deployed alongside the RMA plugin so a single store accepts both domestic Nu. and international card payments. Distribution is direct from Cloud Bhutan, including install, configuration, and ongoing support.
